Meet Barry and Michelle

Meet Wallsend’s Barry & Michelle, your Guest House and Glamping Pod hosts. You will receive a very warm welcome when you check in at reception on arrival. You will also get to meet the hens and ducks in the surrounding gardens of Wallsend!

We have recently taken over the business so we too could wake up to the stunning views of the Solway Firth, the Scottish coast and the amazing beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Wallsend Guest House & Glamping Pods itself continues to grow after starting with only four luxury glamping pods back in July 2014, which proved to be very popular with their home from home comforts all year round. Due to their popularity we have added another in December 2020.

Our current project is refurbishing the Guest House to its former glory back in 1922 – starting with the ground floor rooms including the dining room/guest room and creating a new space for our guests to feel home from home.

We are very excited and have been working behind the scenes since we arrived in October.

About Wallsend Guest House & Glamping Pods

Wallsend Guest House & Glamping Pods is situated in the village of Bowness-on-Solway at the western edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Hadrian’s Wall, steeped in charm and history.

Our home and the site dates to the 15th Century where once was a Peel Tower-Fortified watchtower, in the garden area at the front of the house.

The original rectory sat lower down in the garden and was built in 1859-60 it was severely damaged by fire in 1913 and demolished in 1921. The old well which served this building is still used in the garden today. The current building used recycled materials from the 1860 rectory.

 Our pods opened in 2014 on what was the paddock for the Old Rectory, this was also known locally as ‘The Pickhill’ and people of the village can remember the carnival ending in this field in years gone by.
